How To Help Children And Youth That Have Suffered Birth Trauma
Dry Birth; Long Hard Labor; Premature Birth; Challenging Pregnancy; Caesarean
Without support and sensitive treatment, the effects of traumatic birth can be powerful and long lasting. Problematic behaviors, impulsivity, irritability, restlessness, sleeplessness, often disappear when the emotions and physical effects of birth trauma are given support through various therapies. Birth trauma can be due to a complicated pregnancy, long, hard labor, etc. Without assistance, the child or youth’s mind and body can remain in shock with post-traumatic syndrome throughout adult life. Children & youth born through caesarean processes may dislike being hurried and may lack much will power in later life. Research is ongoing.

For Parents: • Empathy, soothing music and comforting touch are very helpful with children or youth who have experienced birth trauma. • Massage and lots of exercise can be helpful, too. |
